Starting and Stopping Sites

By default, sites start automatically when your computer restarts. Stopping a site stops Internet services and unloads Internet services from your computer's memory. Pausing a site prevents Internet services from accepting new connections but does not affect requests that are already being processed. Starting a site will restart or resume Internet services.

To start, stop, or pause a site
  1. In the Internet Information Services snap-in, select the site you want to start, stop, or pause.
  2. Click the Start, Stop, or Pause button on the toolbar.

Note   If a site stops unexpectedly, the Internet Information Services snap-in may not correctly indicate the state of the server. Before restarting, click Stop, and then click Start to restart the site.
